Hi guys,

about a week ago i had my timing chain, chain tensioner and chain guides replaced by Honda, total cost for labour came to $1100

After i got the car back i have been having some grinding/scratching noises coming from the timing chain underneath the cam cover.

I am not sure what the noise is, but the honda Mechanic told me that it might just be the new chain guides wearing in, i was advised to monitor it for a few weeks to see if it will go away. Here is a video of the noise that i uploaded to you tube.

on the report sheet that i recieved from honda it stated " Possible noise was there previously, Possible new chain guides wearing in"
I told the mechanic that the noise was definetly not there before and they advised me to monitor it for now.

Anyone else experince this before?

i had my chain, chain guide and auto tensioner replaced on mine about 8 months ago

didn't notice that sound after the parts were replaced

i don't think its normal

seems intermittent tho

i got the timing chain replaced, because i was having the timing chain tensioner noise problem that most people have, i was told by the dealership that in order for it to go away permanently all three items had to be replaced..

hmm so its definetly not normal, i guess i should take it back and tell them to look at it again..

could this be doing any damage to any parts driving around with this noise?

i had mine done under warranty and they replaced all 3 parts. so they weren't trying to rip you off by suggesting all 3 parts.

perhaps it might be just a problem during re-assembly rather than a part failing?

There is an inspection plug on the head in front of where the tensioner plugs into the side of the engine. Take it out and look into the hole. The tensioner is supplied in a compressed state with a pin holding it compressed. Once the tensioner is in place you reach in through the hole and pull out the pin to release the tensioner. They may have forgotten to remove the pin.

Otherwise, get someone who know what they are doing to remove the rocker cover and inspect the installation from above.

There is no reason to replace anything but the TCT. 15 minute job.

Even if you do all 3, you can bet your ass the noise can surely return.

There should be NO NOISE AT ALL at this point. There is nothing to wear in or break in.

If you are talking about that intermittent hissing noise, that is definitely not normal and something will give.

Take it back.

Thanks for the info guys, will take it into honda today and tell them to have a look at it again, ill keep you posted on how it goes.

Billman250 do u think there may be a chance that one of the parts may be damaged due to honda advising me to drive around like this for 2 weeks?
