Sand blasting the worm gear is useless.

You just replaced a part thay may never need to be replaced, or might be good for another 100k miles, and doesn't cause any other damage when it fails, as long as you replace it on time. It's like replacing your brakes before their service limit, this isn't preventative maintenance, it' false economy.

When the TCT fails the chain can jump and change timing then it's bye bye engine.

Aren't you the guy with multiple TCT problems? Replaced with an OEM version?

I guess you are confusing me with someone else, i bought mine a few months back and had the TCT noise since day 1, it stopped for a while after the first oil change but returned after 1000 miles, so i replaced it with the a new OEM one and problem is gone. When you replace the TCT and the noise comes back shortly, the problem most probably is not the TCT itself but other, more important things. Chain strech, or even worse, low oil pressure, can be a few. I am against using aftermarket engine parts if there isn't a reason, for example stiffer TCT needed because of the use of aftermarket camshafts and/or stiffer valve springs.

This is something i've never heard off happening. Technically, maybe it can happen, but the tensioner has to totally let go/fail to allow the chain so much slack to jump a tooth. If TCT noise appears, there's plenty of time before such a failure can become a possible scenario. Afterall, if you've TCT noise it's not wise to rev it to 9000 before it's being fixed.

Not at first, no you're absolutely correct. However once the problem begins to manifest itself, it won't get better only worse unless corrective steps are taken.

Hi, before I spend money on a TCT would anybody be able to tell me if this noise is the TCT, or something else? Engine is warm in the video. http://youtu.be/YHp-J9wWvIc

Cheers,
Mark
