Timing Chain Tensioner Noise
#851
So after changing the engine oil/filter, my TCT noise calmed down almost entirely. Now the TCT noise will only appear after a start with the engine hot, but it will go away after some seconds or 1 minute driving and be quiet again. I need to hook my oil pressure gauge immediately to check oil pressure as it seems even before i try to replace the TCT with the new OEM one i got

Eventually the noise came back as the oil breaks down, and after 1300 miles the noise was audible again at warm idle. Replaced the tensioner with a new OEM one and it's quite again, only hope it will not come back

Well 35 pages later... that was one hell of a read!
Can't believe how much pain a fair few of you have gone through over the years to finally get to the bottom of this, but still surprised after all this time Honda still have not stepped in. Reading every single post in here I can clearly see there is an issue with M1 (or anything similar) oil and I believe Castral is the way forward. I have been hearing a few little noises under the bonnet in recent times (might just be paranoia of course) but I will follow all the wonderful advice on this thread. Just for people's info I own a 2002 with 30K miles on the clock.
P.S. Throughout this thread I have seen plenty of people asking the same questions over and over. Just be calm and skim read through the thread till you get your answer. It is all there! Its a shame half of the pics are now missing tho

I installed Billman's GenX TCT earlier this spring. Never had any clicking with the original OEM part but the swap takes 10 minutes with a 10mm ratcheting spanner and a paper towel. Preventive maintenance is the best maintenance.

These's no reason to replace the TCT if it isn't noisy.

Remember? It's called preventive maintenance. Replace parts known to go bad before they go bad.

amen, nothing wrong w/changing parts early, esp ones known to be problem areas. pay now or pay a whole lot more later. i swapped out my perfectly functioning TCT for the Billman right around when you did this year.

I just finished sand blasting mine and wanted to give a little warning to those that will do this, before you put the parts inside, take Q-tips with any solvent and wipe the inside of the piston and the inside of the worm gear until it comes out clean, mine had a lot of the grit inside even though I had cleaned them several times with just liquid poured into them.
