hey,

im honest, i dont want to read all the 33 pages.
whats the state of affairs?

is sandblasting still the best way to help out?

i contacted billman but he seems to be busy and didnt answer.

want to put in my new oem tct, but i want to modify it if there are
helpful things to do to the new tct.

I just had a clicking noise on a warm idle after swapping my valve springs/retainers/etc and doing a valve adjustment. After double checking all my work I determined the TCT was the culprit. I swapped it out yesterday...no more noise!

I guess its a coincidence it just started acting up when I swapped my valvetrain. Its a relatively cheap part and only took 15 min to install, the one I pulled out looked like it may have been the original, with 82k on the clock.

my noise isnt there when the engines cold. it started when it was warm, and only then when at tickover revs... as soon as I give it a few revs its gone. noticed aswell tho, that when i give it some revs its fine, until I back off.then the idle revs are a bit iffy, infact it even cut out on me once... and thats when the noise likes to kick in... not sure if its spark timing issues, or if it really is the tct... that video i commented on, has the same sound tho, just as i said, the noise on mine is less frequent.

btw im using castrol edge 0w30

When replacing the TCT is it best to replace the whole lot - chain, guides etc or just the tensioner?

I'm curious too. I've had this rattle for a long time... it began around 90K miles and continues today at 150K. To date, no effect on performance, but it sure is annoying. If this is essentially a wear item and the problem will recur in the future, is there a "good" time to have this done?

Noticed noise about a year ago during a hot summer trip to Houston, TX. Replaced time chain tensioner yesterday and added oil to full level. Test drove car at hotest time of day and no more noise. Took me about 30 minutes to replace from DIY instructions on this website. One honda dealer said it would take about 6 hours to do and another dealer said about an hour.

That is 100% TCT noise.

OEM TCT's fail but sandblasting will fix the problem temporarily. The new "modified TCT's" made by Billman250 and inline pro i believe have beefier springs and keeps more pressure on the chain and are less prone to fail'. So your choise is spend the money now for something that is a better product, or get comfortable pulling the tct out every now and again to sandblast the worn gear. I've read threads of people dremling the gear with 120grit sand paper after sandblasting it to give it a rough finish and it makes it last. I haven't done that and I'm not confident enough to grind up the gear with a dremel.

I have a loud rattling noise coming from my engine.. I just got the car.. On sept 8, 2012.. It's an 01, with 80k...
Ive had ppl say it might be a rod but from wat this post says it sounds a lot like my noise as well so idk.. Ppl are sayin it's a rod and that I'll have to change my whole motor out and either rebuild it or put in a new one completely..
Anyone got any idea?.. It's also sounds like if someone puts a baseball card on a bike wheel and you hear the card getting hit.. Any ideas ppl?.. I really dont want to have to buy a whole new motor.... -__-
