I have a noise in my engine and I'm not sure if it is the TCT or not.

1. Start the car up cold in the morning
2. Not much of a clicking at idle
3. Pull off of my street at half throttle and I can hear it get louder and louder, sort of like a metallic clicking
4. Gets faster with my rpm/speed
5. Quiets down a lot after 10 minutes of warming up the engine

What do you guys think?

the TCT noise is unmistakable. if your car sounds like THIS:

...then yes, its the TCT.

is sandblasting the worm gear the end all fix all to the TCT? i had the same thing happen awhile back and fixed it. It seems like a lot of people are convinced it's the oil they use which makes sense but i wonder if aftermarket valve springs can also cause this or even cause it to happen as a faster rate. I'm curious as to how many people have had the tensioner go out with stock valve springs??
I've done 40 or so TCTs...all cars had stock engines/valve springs.

Valve springs are not the problem, it's a small design flaw in the TCT itself.

My modified TCT is available for shipment just PM me.

Good vid clip btw...

If the cause of this is polishing of the worm gear, would that rule this out for a 2008 with only 3500 miles on it? Seems like it would take more like 10K+ miles for this type of polishing to happen, but Billman have you seen low mile vehicles TCT's go out?

I have this strange noice since my first oil change several months back and can't figure out what else the noise could be other than a bit of TCT. Seems to almost completely go away when warm, but I hate to even drive the car as it's warming up due to the noice. That's the only thing I can think of that would be affected by a change from factory fill to Dino 10w-30wt oil, but seems very early to have this TCT issue?? Thoughts?

I think my tct is going out, It sounds like the videos. My problem is my car also has a rough time throughout the Rpms. As in it sputters,it will fall on its face and then be fine all in 1 second. I just checked the valves and everything is on point. BTW I have been using Mobil 1 since the day I purchased the car and that was 4yrs ago.

Just curious if anyone has done the sandblasting to the worm gear and still has the noise? I had my worm gear sandblasted yesterday and it sounds as if nothing had been done at all. Maybe it wasn't sandblasted enough or maybe even too much? Anyone else have this problem?
