2poor2mod, Im assuming that if you get the worm gear sandblasted, it will fix the tct noise?
Yes had a friend sandblast it for me and reassembled the TCT reinstalled it and have not had any noise in over 1000 miles

Hmm... Im in the same boat as yours. The noise is faint at idle but around 2.5~3.5 its pretty loud. I don't know whats going on.

Are you still driving it? Notice anything awkward?
nothing awkward. i'm going to get a valve adjustment soon (Again).
this isn't rocket science. it has to be something mechanical.

the only noise you will hear at 9k is the exhaust or the noise in the cabin / air. you shouldn't / wouldn't be able to hear anything going on in the motor head.

I thought it was the TCT, so I replaced the TCT.
The noise never went away in the first place.
Then I got a valve adjustment.
Waited for the engine to cool.
Got the valves adjusted.

The ticking went away.

HiVolume,
Most of us here have changed out our TCT once, twice, even three times before. Each time temp. fixed the problem but it continued later on.
Most of us who had this problem were using Mobil 1 Oil (synthetic or not)
If you are using Mobil 1 oil, now would be a time to research other motor oils
MOBIL 1 for this car.

I had the same noise as everyone else. Did a valve adjustment and it got better at start ups, but was bad when warm again. Switched from Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30 to Amisol 10w-30 synthetic and now the noise is completely gone. Its been 2 weeks and ~1000 miles.

I bought the car with 62k miles and there was no noise. Put in Mobil 1 for first oil change, and about 4k miles later had the noise. Someone suggested Mobil 1 is probably over lubricating the worm in the tensioner. This is probably true.

I've been using Mobil 1 on all my former cars, but I think its time to give it up for the S.

Hi,

Somebody can put a picture for show us where exactly you sandblast the worm gear.

Thanks!

Every externally exposed surface. No picture needed.

Okay so it looks like I am going to have to replace the TCT as well. I'm just going to replace it with a new one and use the old one and sandblast the wormgear like everyone is suggesting. I am going to follow this write-up (http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=18013) but about the pin, when you go to pull it through the maintenance which way should it face? Thats is the only part I am confused about.

I'm not sure I'm 100% clear on what you're asking. If you're installing a new TCT, and it's installed properly, the pin will be facing the maintenance hole and you can easily grab it with a set of needle-nose pliers and pull it straight out.
