Ahh, that's not at all what I expected. If it was an oiling problem, I expected the wear to occur on the chain side of the arm, not the tensioner contact.

Looking at that wear, I would suspect that it's simply caused by the tensioner not maintaining tension (which is obviously the problem) and then the tensioner piston bangs off that contact point. That woodpecker effect eventually wears the contact point down.

So, the root cause is still an issue with the tensioner... not the tensioner arm.

That "wear" that is circled equates to about .0005.

It will not affect the chain tension, the noise, or the TCT in any way.

I've put TCT's in brand new s2ks, with under 10k miles.

i had bought a new tensioner before cause thats what everyone told me the noise was and the noise came back like 2 months later. thats when i decided to do the whole timming chain job cause someone in another forum suggested it and said that was the only way to permanetly take away the noise. he also said he was a honda tech . my car had like 45k miles at the time. i did the whole timming job and used the same tensioner as before that everyone told me was bad and the noise went away . car runs perfect . if it was the tensioner why doesnt it still do the noise as before ?

So I did the install last night, very straightforward. I took the car out for a quick (~10 mile) spin last night, noise is gone, everything looks great.

Today, I drive it into work, going up a hill, it starts making this knocking sound, then the engine goes dead! I pull over, turn it back on, everything seems fine. The engine idles normally. While driving, however, when I press the gas pedal, this horrible loud knocking sound appears, about 1x per engine revolution. The car seems very down on power. Anyone have an idea as to what happened?
