Timing Chain Tensioner Noise
#321
Another one bites the dust. 24k miles on the car and have been running Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 since 5k miles.
Brought it into the dealer...the service manager and the S2K tech come out to listen for the sound and they said something was definitely bad. Immediately the service manager accused me of improperly maintaining the car and said that my oil was low. As if on cue the tech snapped up the dipstick in his greasy little paws...only to find the oil level indicated all the way to the topmost X mark on the dipstick. I told them about it sounding like the TCT and they agreed and they said it would take a few days to probably order the TCT and put it in. Well at 4pm the next day I get a call from the dealer stating that it is fixed. What was their "fix"...to change the oil. It made the sound go away for maybe 1500 miles and now it is back again at random times. Of course as you can see by my membership time, my warranty has just expired. Oh well, better for me to do it then hand to some monkey with a screwdriver...
On a side note I read on here or on a motorcycle forum that M1 is bad for yellow metals and such and whatnot. Now I'm not a metalurgist so I don't know what that means, but could the M1 oil have some type of component that is not 100% compatible with our engine metals, or timing chain metals or the metal of the TCT?

I've found that it is always quiet after changing the oil, but comes back after 1 to 2K miles. So what changes occur in the oil in that much time? I've always run Mobile 1 10W-30. Does the oil thin out in that much time?

i know this might sound stupid, or maybe someone has posted this already...
but my car used to make this noise and i discovered that when i got my oil changed the dealership was using a generic oil filter and not the special honda filter. whenever they use the special honda filter, the noise never comes back.

Looks like it's my turn... dealer told me to replace my TCT when I asked them what the rattle was during the 60K service... definitly the card/spoke thing.
My problem is that they want $975 to fix this. $175 for the part and 8 hours of labor. This doesn't jive with the pictures earlier in this thread. 2 dealers have told me it requires pulling off a good part of the front end of the engine... radiator, AC, water pump...
How are the rest of you getting this done in 15 -20 minutes? What am I missing?
