Just did one yesterday on a 2002 with 36k. It was very bad, making noise constantly. As always, the noise went away 100% when replaced.

I have found no pattern in the 20+ that I have done. I have put them in a 2004 with 10k miles.

BUT....this one has got to be the worse one I've done. I'm going to dissemble it, and a brand new one, and do every dimensional and surface test I have learned in my 10 years as a machinist. I hope to come up with a definite answer.

IF I DON'T....Maybe you guys can do some research as to where I can send this thing.

I had the guy take a video clip with his fancy cell phone of the car before I pulled the tensioner. Hopefully he can host the noise here. Stay tuned....

Just looking through my current pile of about 10 TCT's, they are all NTN2, which I'm pretty sure means original. There is also an NTN1 in there that went bad, which I'm pretty sure means it has been replaced once before. So I would definitely not follow any NTN-X basis about which is better.

Yeah but obviously there is scales are leaning more towards the NTN 2 being bad more often. I think it's obvious that both can go bad, but all I EVER see is NTN2 with a rare few of NTN1.

That's because all cars come with NTN2 from the factory.

I've done plenty of NTN1 as well, like THREE of them on my car. They both suck, trust me

Oh well in that case. I guess the perhaps need to come out with something that works. This is gonna get real old changing these things ever so often. Is anyone noticing that it gets worse on higher hp motors? B/c if that was the case it'd really sucks for a few of us.

So far my odds look like 50/50. I had an NTN2 go bad at 8K miles, and an NTN1 go bad 6K miles later.

I just wanted to add a comment about the actual chain being the cause ( I know is was discussed a while back).
I put in a brand new short block (new chain is included), re-used the tensioner, and my car sounds like a diesel truck or like a card in the spoke of a bike after it is warmed up.
Its loud and will be replaced as soon as the snow stops.

Diesel truck...never thought of that one

If any of you have heard a small import diesel, the compression knock is very loud. Sounds like that...
