timing chain tensioner
Last few days I've had a noticable clank clank clank (noise maker as others put it) sound coming from my engine bay at low idles. After a little research on here everyone points towards the timing chain tensioner. But I only have 21,xxx miles on MY05, would I be do for one already?

a temporary fix is an oil change..but ive replaced 2 on my car already. the conclusion ive come up with is that since the TCT is oil pressure assisted, as the oil gets older it gets thinner therefore not creating the density and pressure thats ideal for the TCT to retract all the way back in. also..do you run Mobil 1? a lot of threads involving bad TCTs seemed to have revolved around Mobil 1. I switched to Royal Purple..and the noise went away.

wow, never thought engine oil could be the cause of TCT failure...i wonder what billman has to say about this.
amsoil for the most part...no tct problems...77K miles.

that sucks...I just replaced my TCT and did an oil change...inserting Mobile 1...I guess I will have to do another oil change rather than running a lot of miles and eating away another TCT.

tct covered under warrenty?
by all means im not endorsing royal purple and what not...its just after coming up with numerous search results regarding TCT failures and Mobil 1...I decided to switch.
the noise itself for those of you just joining us...sounds like a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle its makes a "clackety clickety" sound, usually when starting the engine after its been driven. the noise goes away when revved however the noise reappears when the revs fall to an idle.
PM billman...hes the TCT king on this board.
