Default Timing Chain Tensioner

What's the life expectancy of a new original tct under normal driving conditions?

It is all going to differ but I did mine around 70k miles with not tracking the car. You will do it eventually just don't wait long after you start to hear the noise. You even could do it now and save a headache. Get the one from Billman and save yourself trouble in the future.

It depends on the car.

If the car currently has tct noise, the noise can return in less than one week if you use an oem tct.

Is it inevitable? I have 102,000 miles and haven't had issue with it yet. It could have been replaced by the previous owner but I can't say for sure.

So if I'm already hearing tct noise, then replacing the tensioner won't fix it? What else will I have to do?

I think if you go OEM you might hear the noise again. That's why most go with Billman's TCT. He has a great track record of them curing the noise for good.

I have just under 70k miles. No noise yet at least I can't hear any. But I plan to have Billman replace it later this week at RTD2015 as a preventive measure.

If you have an OEM TCT (Actually not the original name of the part) it is very likely that, sooner or later, it will wear causing the classic TCT noise. You can replace it with a new OEM part, you can attempt to fix the old one (for example by sandblasting the worm) but sooner or later, once again, it is likely to fail again.

It appears the Billman TCT addresses the weak design points of the OEM version and made one (from the original core) that will go the distance and has a lifetime warranty. The Ballade (may look nice with the cosmetic blue finish) that has improved springs (from what I understand) but may still suffer from some flaws with design and materials. (Seen some pics of worn metal pins) Oil pressure drives this thing and from what I understand Billman's unit is the only one that modified the oil delivery method.

I have an 09 with 52K that had no TCT noise. In a departure from the "if it is not broken, do not fix it" adage, based on advice from Billman, I did a pre-emptive strike and replaced my TCT with Billman's. Easy install. No issues.
