That 'tick' sound on acceleration - discovered source!
Alright!
So my dealer has figured out what the "tick" sound was.
Explanation:
- "tick" sound, single "click" or "tick" sound heard from driver's side rear on accelerating forward or reverse from a full stop.
Source:
- damaged wheel bearing on driver's side, rear wheel.
History:
- started out as a "tick" sound, with 28,000km on the car.
- brought to dealer, solution was to tighten axle nut.
- "tick" sound was gone for at least 3 weeks.
- "tick" sound came back, very intermittent.
- could not reproduce sound on demand.
- at 37,000km sound is much more pronounced, and can be reproduced on demand.
- at 37,600km sound is quite loud, with vibration from rear on acceleration in any gear.
- dealer has ordered replacement bearing.
This may be a one-off problem, but for those who have this "tick" sound problem, get it checked out before you get stuck waiting for a bearing to get shipped to your dealership.
Peace.

Thanks for posting,
I just tightened my new nuts, and Im a little concerned that maybe I should have checked and re-packed the bearings. But at least the noise is gone.

Ive packed all types - sealed/non-sealed/agricultural sealed/single ball/lateral needle/standard needle . . .
As long as load surfaces are OK Ill put 'em back together if I didn't tear them up too much pulling them apart.
I mess with bearings every day Most people wouldnt, but its part of my job

Ok! So it was the left shaft! The CV failed, most likely due to a spinout that occured some time ago (hydroplaned, ended up in a ditch, and found a rotten apple ).
But guess what, the TICK is back!
Damn... well, gonna take it back to check it tomorrow.
Peace.

Sorry, childish, I know but I couldn't resist.
On a more serious note, I have developed a loud click whenever I back my car out of the driveway in the morning. It only clicks once, and not again until the car sits for a while. Usually, overnight in the garage or longer.
Anyone else experience this? Is this the same clicking that we're talking about here?
