Thumping from rear end when on throttle
Hi guys. I have a problem I was hoping you all might help me troubleshoot.
Vitals:
2002 AP1
118,000 miles
Original Clutch
All fluids changed regularly (Diff in last 15k, Oil 5k, Trans 30k)
Tires and alignment appear to be fine
Signs:
Happens when cold or hot
Happens at 50-100% throttle
More pronounced going around corners
More pronounced under load (going up hills)
Feels like a rock in the tires, but does not seem to change in speed
Has been progressively getting worse for about 2k miles
No apparent clutch slip, though I could be just "getting used to it"
Thoughts:
Could it be the original 118k clutch?
Rear axles?
Flat spot in tires I'm not seeing? (Thats what it feels like)
What do you guys think could be the problem?

Just in case this ends up in a future search, here is the link to that thread: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/241...ar+axle+bucket

That's a completely different phenomenon. That thump is the sound of the countershaft (in your transmission) being quickly brought to a halt by engaging a gear before the countershaft stops spinning. Wait a second or two after pushing in the clutch pedal, but before engaging first.

Pitted axle buckets will result in the car feeling as if you are driving over a rough cobblestone surface while accelerating ONLY. It instantly goes away when you release the throttle.

thanks for the update.
any serious damage if the axle bucket doesn't get replaced and you continue to drive it?
I don't have the issue but was just curious when it does happen, how long I have until something go terribly wrong. Thank you
