You have to have air to have that happen. If the TPS was bad it won't hold the throttle open but supply tons of fuel all the time. Motor revs likely would not climb...
Good point

toyota just had a huge recall for sticking throttle concerns. its a sarcastic remark the dude is making to be funny.

OT: sounds like throttle is getting stuck open to me too. check blade for binding/sticking, as well as check the cable.

Is it buzzing to the 9200rpm limiter by itself when its playing up, or is it just misfiring like a rev limiter after you hit vtec.

If you vtec and the knock sensor or the vtec oil pressure switch are not working correctly the ECU goes into limp home mode and will misfire like an rpm limiter above 6000rpm.

No it bounces at 9k until u shut it down. I knew about the limp home mode from my days with my VAFC. I had him check the throttle cable today and he said it wasn't getting stuck, he also twisted the butterfly to see if it was getting stuck @ WOT and said that it was normal and shot right back down. This damn car has me dumbfounded!

By your description, you have 2 issues:

A slipping clutch (which would allow the engine to quickly climb to redline)

And a sticking throttle...correct?

I'm sure I can help if I can picture exactly whats happening. You'll have to hook up a scanner and see if the TPS is stuck at 100% during the wot issue.

on the contrary, at around 6300 rpms (normal VTEC engagement) the car hesitated and kind of shuddered, then continued to climb very slowly in rpms until i let off around 7500 rpms. i never heard or felt the VTEC kick in.
This is normal except for the shudder.

as soon as the throttle "sticks", i let off the gas and put it in neutral. the rpms still climb to redline and stay there.

If you pull up on the gas pedal with your foot do the rpms drop down?
