Default Throttle body won't come off manifold

I'm cleaning up the TB and IACV today. I got the IACV off no problem, but can't get the TB off.

2 bolts and 2 nuts are removed from front of the TB, as well as all hoses and throttle cable. But something is keeping this thing on really snug... I think. Or if there's a gasket in there, maybe it's what's holding it on so tight?

Other than those 2 nuts and 2 bolts, is there anything else holding this thing on? I've tugged on it a bit and it doesn't budge at all.

Take a chisel and separate it.

There is a gasket that makes it stick pretty good, a few light taps should get it loose.

Dont use a chisel. Just tap on the TB with a soft mallet or something similar. No reason to risk gouging the gasket surface with a chisel.

Thanks for the reply.

Given that you suggested that, I first tried tapping at it with a rubber mallet in a few spots and it came loose. I was just too apprehensive to try this first without posing the question here.

This forum is invaluable. Thanks for the replies, all.

I use one of these "persuaders." Rubber on one side for soft metals and wood. Plastic on the other for harder surfaces, like pipes. Good for all kinds of stubborn joints!

I'll ask some related questions here instead of starting up a new thread...

1. Does the butterfly valve seal water tight? I started out letting some carb cleaner sit in there on top of the valve -- it pooled up nicely and sat there for quite some time, so presumably closed up nice and tight. But when I finished cleaning, I noticed that when I did the same thing, it leaks out slowly now. Is a 100% tight seal when closed the expected behaviour?

2. How clean does the TB have to be in order for my efforts to be worth while? There are still some areas where I just couldn't completely remove the residue, although it's no longer raised (can't feel it when I run my finger over it) it still bugs me that I couldn't get all of those carbon spots removed. I have some fine sanding pads with the foam backing -- I was tempted, but wasn't sure if that's a smart idea.

Yes, I am OCD. Yes, it's a bit of a problem sometimes.

its not supposed to be water tight.

photos of what you're trying to clean may lead to suggestions.

Maybe some stiff bottle brushes? Or just a stiff bristle toothbrush or something?

No, its not supposed to be liquid tight. It was only that way because of the gunk that is now gone.

If you must, use a rag and some mild metal polish to get rid of stubborn stains. Just clean all of it off with more tb cleaner before reassembly. The less gritty the polish the better. Note, toothpaste is a very mild, water soluble polish.

Definitely do not use an abrasive pad or sand paper or anything that will create metallic dust or that will shed any of its abrasive material. All too easy for some of that to get left behind and make its way into cylinders.
