Throttle Body
Is an overbored throttle body worth the money? I was looking at Science of Speed's overbored throttle body, and I was curious if this actually can yield an increase in power. I will be using at the very least an Apexi Neo, or possible an AEM EMS set up. I just want to know if this will be worth the investment, granted it's only $245, but will I gain power from this?

Probably very little. You have to reduce restriction all the way through the engine system. Port the intake...port the head...go with a J's header...70mm test pipe & exhaust...do all that and the extra air the larger tb provides might be useful.

The throttle body is 62.5mm stock. The manifold opening is also 62.5mm. Thus to use a SOS, Spoon or Proflow TB at 66mm or another larger TB, it is necessary to open up the manifold to get maximum effect.
The following photo is a manifold opened to 66mm. You don't need to weld in any material to open up to 66mm. Notice the idle port holes on the left side.
Opening to 70mm for a BDL TB. Notice the lack of idle ports. They will be drilled out allowing adequate surface area for the gasket. When boosted, the size of the area for the gasket should be appropriate.
When bolted on the walls line up perfect.
As stated above, the TB enlargement only improves throttle response from opening more area with less pedal movement initially. It will not increase power on a non-boosted application.
Save the $245.

Spoon says their TB produces 4- 6 WHP. It is possible with a 14% larger opening, better sensors and better forming of the bore. I paid 500 for my spoon unit and love it. The Ear dyno tells me about 2-3 WHP but throttle response is tremendous and it idles better too.
