threw a rod through the oil pan...what's next?
I recently bought an AP1 off of a kid here in Seattle. The kid did god knows what to the car, but threw a rod through the oil pan. I did start the car up once when I picked the car and it ran and idled but just made an loud ugly knock. So what's next...is this motor salvageable, or should I just chalk it as a loss and buy a new motor? I'm open to suggestions.

Just remove the broken rod and its partner ( eg, if rod 3 blew, also remove #4).This keeps things balanced. Remove the rockers from those cylinders as well and leave the injectors unplugged.
You will then have a Honda S1000.
Don't forget to check the oil regularly.

This "kid" on our forum?
I assume you realized you were taking a risk when you bought the car with a motor that was knocking? In scenarios like this, the cheapest and quickest way to get back on the road is to find a good used complete motor and swap it in.

I wondered how that worked... So if only one cylinder is good you have an S500. Got it!

Without pulling it apart and taking some pictures it is impossible to tell if the engine is salvageable. Obviously the quick and easy way is to change the engine for a used one.
