Motor swap would take less time.
You don't need to do anything different if you get the 2.2 other than realize that you will need to be your own rev limiter. The 2.2 can safely rev to 8500rpm (that is where Hondata sets the rev limit on the reflash for the MY06+). Going beyond that regularly is risky...once in a while is probably ok.

You can use your ap1 ecu.
You could get an ap2 ecu to set a lower rev limit...but that would increase complexity because you would need to get a new key from the dealer to match the new ecu.
If you don't think you can control your right foot, get one of modifry's shift beepers to remind you to shift.

So he just drove the car back to you and told you he threw a rod? What did he tell you happened? Can you even throw a rod from just driving around?
Most of the time people throw rods is because they run extremely low on oil and messes up with the bearings.
Its more common that he mis-shifted your car and bent the valves. If he was pushing it and shifts back to first for example instead of going to 3rd he will bend the valves, and youll have a clunking noise and a CEL.
Anyways you should give more detail as to what exactly happened. Anyways if I were you I would spend that money on a stroker kit and rebuild the 2.0 to the inline pro 2.5 or a 2.4.

Generally if you 'throw a rod' you also 'hole your block' as the broken rod end flails around.
I expect you have spun a bearing or as GB says, bent a valve.
If the former, rebuild time. If the latter well, pull the head and see.
