Default Thoughts on Synthetic Lubricants???

I'm the proud owner of a new Sebring Silver S2000. My question to you is what your thoughts are on the use of syntetic lubricants? I think I have a pretty good knowledge of how they differ from dino oil, but are the benefits significant enough to warrant the cost? Does the use of synthetics void any warranties or anything?

What kind of oil comes in the S2000? (brand, weight)

Thanks in advance!

- don't change your oil while it's breaking in
- use synthetics (should you decide to use it) after 10k miles

i used Honda Motoroil the first 3 oil changes (made by Mobil), and now i use Mobil1

Do you use a Mobil 1 oil filter, as well? Are you using a stock Honda oil filter for the first few changes, or an aftermarket?

I assume you need to jack the S2000 up to change the oil. Where are the jack locations on the car? Axle? On frame behind front wheels and in front of rear wheels?

I recently talked to the certified NSX techs at Acura Carland about this. They told me they get the same question all the time about the NSX and the ITR. They cars are designed to run on regular old motor oil, so putting synthetic in them can't hurt but probably won't have any benifit either. Their advice: take it to your favorite Honda or Acura dealer and insist on the genuine Honda motor oil. It puts all of the liability on them.

if you plan to keep your s2k till you die, it might worth it to use the best possible oil. otherwise, just use cheap castrol, your transmission, alternator, ac compressor, clutch, suspension, body panels soft top, and everything else probably will die sooner than your engine( assuming you dont abuse your engine).
for the average driver, synthetic is a waste of money, but then again who wants to admit he is just average.

You mean the "genuine" Honda Motor Oil that is manufactured by someone else?

I change my filters at ~5-6000 miles since to do their job they MUST become plugged.

Yeah...it's made by Mobil...

Also, I'm not saying that syntehtic oil isn't better quality. However, no one has ever been able to show a marked performance gain by using it. Further, no one who changes their oil and filter regularly has problems using conventional oil. So, the only "proven" benifit of using synthetic oil seems to be peace of mind. IMHO
