All of this is appropriately scary...but wtf is my oil filter not filtering if all these metal particulates are managing to attach themselves to such a magnetic plug??? Not being a wise-a$$; genuinely curious.

They have to reach the filter to get filtered. Most of them stay in the pan (settle). It is normal...to an extent.

Now the question is: Where did the metal particles come from? Most of the internals including the cylinder liners are aluminum so it won't be on the magnet.. so what is wearing? Likely not the bearings.. could it be from the cam and lifters?
