Thick blue smoke when taking off
Just started today... I left work to go to a doctors appt. and when i came to a stop at the light my car shuttered a little. After trying to take off from the light my car was shuttering and blowing out blue smoke. While driving i couldnt notice any blue smoke but may have been from just the wind and how thin the smoke may have been. The car didnt seem to stutter or blow smoke once i was rolling but repeated the same process of stalling and blowing thick blue smoke everytime i was sitting still at a light.. Any ideas? quick fixes? hoping it isnt the valve seals or rings.

Most likely the rings. I had a leak down test done and sure enough one of my cylinders was whacko. I get blueish smoke and a nasty 'burning' oil smell intermittently in the cabin.

As stated above, probably a ring(s). What's probably happening is when the motor is pulling vacuum at idle or when you decelerate, oil is getting into the combustion chamber. When you get back on the gas, it burns and you puff blue smoke. Do not drive the car if you can help it - you may be able to minimize cylinder wall scoring. Do a compression and leakdown test. If the compression is low in any particular cylinder (and it should if it is a ring problem), do a leakdown test on the cylinder(s) in question. If it is much more than an average of 10-15%, put a teaspoon of oil down through the spark plug hole and see if leakdown results are better. If they are, you should hear the oil blowing past the oil control ring in the problematic cylinder(s). Good luck!

I have another question... Not trying to go agaisnt what you were saying but wouldnt the smoke be bad at higher speeds if it were the rings? i was just thinking it may be a valve seal seeing as how it is mostly smoking after stopping and then accelerating. j/w?

problem with my 03 F20 motor with 90k miles and
it ended up being a ring in cylinder 2.
