here is the original thread of my no good very bad day. i dont think its very funny but i guess you can laugh at me like everyone else. anyways, today i had a few visits to vtec land, (6-7 times) and after i came home i checked my oil fiter and it loosened about 1/8 -1/4 of a turn. it seems like a few owners had the same problem. what the heck is goin on?
also do you guys feel moderate engine viberation on the clutch pedal when you upshift? the higher the revs the more i feel the viberations on the clutch pedal when i depress it.

What kind of filter are you using and what procedure do you utilize when doing a filter change?
Do you use the correct size filter?
Do you clean off the mating surface on the engine block where the filter screws onto?
Do you ensure you have removed the old filter gasket?
Do you lightly oil the gasket on the new filter?
Do you attempt to screw the new filter on the recommended 7/8th of a turn after the gasket makes contact with the mount?
The answers to these questions may give you the answer to your question.

xviper im using a wix filter. filter number is 51334 according to winchester auto here in Cali. basically the same size as the filters used on the later model civics.
i do wipe off the mating surface of the engine block before the new filter goes on.
i oil the gasket with the old oil too. i also put a dab of oil on the threads of the filter.
the old filter gasket comes off with the old filter.
i usually give it a good hand tight of the filter. probably more than 1 full turn after the gasket touches the area where the filter screws on to.
i guess its an s2k thing. i never had the filter on as tight as on my s2k than on other cars and those filter stays on. ok back to work.

With you past experience with the filter coming loose, you should tighten it as hard as you can by hand and then use the filter wrench to give it another 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Careful to not dent the filter if you are using a band type wrench.

im also wondering if engine vibration has anything to do with the filter backing loose. my engine ran at high rpm for a few sec's before when the filter came loose. i wonder if bearing clearance was affected by lack of oil pressure. and also if a larger bearning clearance causes or promotes engine vibrations.
i may be wrong about the more than 1 full turn of the oil filter, but i do put it on tight.
anyone have the pics of the anti oil filter backing loose diy?
