Thank you "under the hood" forum.
Was kinda bored this afternoon after a long morning on the lake fishing, and I came across a previous post via the "SEARCH" function in regards to low oil. Low and behold, I went and checked mine, and it was at the bottom X. Went to Checker, picked up 2 quarts of Castol Syntec 10/30, and the car only needed one. Now, I will go back and try to find out why it's burning oil. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for posting in the threads I am about to read. There sure are a lot of them.

You opened up something here. How many miles do you have on the car? If under 10K, you shouldn't be putting synthetic in yet. If you're topping off the original oil, you should be using something like Castrol GTX 10W-30.

You shouldn't have to search too far to see that it is a natural tendency for this car to use oil till it is fully broken in. This can take up to as high as 15K-20K miles. The more you VTEC, the more it will consume oil. It has to do with the fact that this engine uses ceramic cylinder liners and that VTEC uses oil pressure to actuate.

Well, my car just turned 44k. I bought it used last year, and it is "certified". I started using the synthetic stuff at 36k when I bought it. Plan on asking the tech next month to make sure it's ok when I go in for my oil change. I will change the oil every 5 month, as opposed to 3 with non synthetic. I was actualy amazed at how clean the oil still is with just over 3k on the oil. I don't really drive the car hard, and when I did my last oil change, I only used 5 quarts, not the 5.3 that my tech told me I needed. I originally bought 4 quarts, and I had to go out and buy another. I know now though.

Be very careful not to make the mistake of leaving the oil in your engine too many miles more just because it is synthetic. Although synthetic is considered a better oil, the additives may not last any longer than those in dino oil. You do not want to risk sludge build up.
