Default Testing Ignition Coil Pack

Hello s2ki,

I was wondering if anyone had a step by step guide to testing ap1 ignition coil pack with a multimeter and its ohm reading for normal. I tried searching with no luck.

Thank in advance!

You would need Dielectric test you could have good ohms reading and still have bad Dielectric and arc over to body. Good luck.

Buy a spark tester and set the gap to 30k (30,000 volts required to jump the gap. It will be close to 1.5 inches). Hook it up to the coil and see if it will jump the gap CONSISTENTLY.

I'm hoping that there is an easier way to test the ignition coils, i.e. using a multimeter and checking the nodes from where they are connected to the wire.

Although I've replaced all 4 ignition coils and engine runs fine now, I'm wondering which of my ignition coil went bad. Does anyone know how to check with multimeter?

Thanks.

Unplug injector clips one by one with the car running and see which one does not make a difference. That is the dead coil.

Hi all my 01 sk 100000 miles just started missing on one cylinder I ohm'd out the coils this is what I found meter on 200k scale from terminal on left side when looking at pins to middle terminal 1.2
from left to right terminal 50.4 from middle to right again about 50.3 .Three of the coils were approximately the same the one I assume is bad had no reading from left to right and from left to middle 1.8

I have ordered a new set of coils I think this will solve my problem

Pete
