Default temperature question--is it normal???

hi all,

this happen recently. when am driving (on a 70 miles trip) or so, the temperature would dropped from 3 bars to 2 bars on some occasion. It would dropped to 2 bars for about 30second to a minute or so than it would went back to 3 bars. I just noticed this too, so should I worried about it or is it normal. Oh by the way am from southern california, so the outside temp. is like 70 degree or so, so I figure its not the outside temp. thanks for your help!

Sounds like your thermostat is sticking open... They are usually pretty inexpensive to replace and usually pretty simple as well.

I agree with the thermostat. The part is not that expensive, but it is kind of a pain to get to to replace on the S. If it is still under waranty, have the dealer look at it and replace.

Inexpensive maybe, but ask anyone who upgraded to a Mugen or Spoon unit if they liked their coolant bath. I did'nt like mine.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but did the temp guage for 2004 change to be more granular - in other words, more bars? I almost always have 5-6 bars on my 2004.

wow, i have never ever seen anything other than 3 bars when the engine is warm... always wondered if we could get 4 or even 2.

tim- it sounds like the new ones get more bars than the old ones!
