Default Temperature Guage goes to 4 or 5 bars then back down to 3

In the last couple of weeks when my car is warming up it will go up to 4 or 5 bars (AP1) and then go back down to 3 bars and settle. Is this normal? Could this be my thermostat going bad?

not normal, your pretty modded from the looks of it. How old is the coolant and tstat? Maybe time for a good flush and tstat swap. Pretty cheap in my opinion to knock out. Could have some air in the system.

most likely air, due to a leak. check the rad level.

it is not normal.

if the rad is full to the top and your heat is hot while idling, you likely have a bad thermostat.

I'm banking on air/low coolant.

air in the system, only takes a small amount. As Billman said, if your heat is not Super Hot it is air in the system

BTW. in your mods, i do not see that you have an aftermarket radiator, if you still have the OEM, they split where the plastic top, or bottom is glued to the aluminum. You might have develpoed a leak. If so youll be able to smell antifreeze. I replaced my radiator before it forced me to replace it but getting ALL of the air out(especially from the heater core) can be tricky if you have not done it before.
