So you are saying it went to 4 bars, then back down?

There might be something wrong with your temp sender, gauge or wiring. Did you notice that when your bars went up that high, how long a time frame did this happen? Coolant temp can't go that hot and cool down in a short time frame. And did the rad fan come on? For sure, if 4 bars was "real", the rad fan would have kicked in. I would think that it is highly unlikely that the actual temp of the coolant got to 5 or 6 bars without some serious boil over.
However, the temp sensor is near the back of the engine close to cylinder #4 - you know, that infamous #4 cylinder failure? I don't want to alarm you but do check to make sure that #4 is OK and there is no weird "hot spot" at that location for some reason. A quick check of the spark plug and a look down the plug hole could tell you if things are normal. Did you ever get the spark plug recall done?

First, don't get too concerned about the #4 thing. You still haven't answered my question about how quickly the bars go up and down and the rad fan thing. This will give a clue as to whether or not it's the gauge.
As for the spark plugs, did you increase the torque as recommended in the recall? The old torque was deemed inadequate and the plugs were backing out. This was feared to have been responsible for some of the engine grenades although Honda will not say this conclusively.
If you look down the plug hole, you should be comparing what you see with the other cylinders. If #4 looks about the same as the others and the plugs all look about the same as each other, then chances are this is not of immediate concern. You don't want to see a different coloration of the piston top or any debris down there. You don't want to see the plug tip damaged in any way. You don't want to see the white porcelain part of the plug looking overly "baked" compared to the other plugs (brownish tingue near the metal part).

OK, we're just going around in circles here. Please indicate what kind of TIME FRAME when you say "quickly". Are we talking seconds or minutes? I'm trying to help you but you're not giving me the answers I need.
