Next car in, I'd like to observe the the TCT with the service plug removed. To see if the end of the TCT piston is pulsing back and forth, or it is just held back and stationary.

Billman any more research you have gathered? Im still very curious to find out whether its the oil rings or low oil pressure!

So what is recommended for those of us who wish to install a thinner headgasket?

Twisted...what makes you think this is adjustable? In my book, it is in no way adjustable, aside from changing the spring pressure inside the valve itself. In a tight state, oil pushes past the ball seat. In any other position it would render the valve useless.

totaly missed this post awhile back

Bill the way I look at it is the oil bleeds out the hole on the side . Depending how the two holes are lined up will change how much is oil gets bypassed .

What I have done for thinner headgaskets and shaved heads is take two tensioner . Cut about 1/4 in off one and take the 1/4 in piece and TIG weld it to the other to lengthen the pin .

So for now Billman, until we figure out what to do to fix it for good. What weight oil do you recommend? I used to use Redline, but with autocrossing and with my 80K engine, it is getting too pricey to keep to topped off, so I switch to Mobil 1 10W30. Would you recommend a change to 15W30? I am changing the Tensioner tonight for the first time, the noise has been going on for a long time, I just wasn't sure what it was, mine was really just making the noise on startup.

ok I have a noob question. I have this same noise but do not know how nor do I have the time to take it apart.

I am taking it in tommorow, what would I call this problem to the mechanic and about how much will it cost?

Bad timing chain tensioner.

All you need is part number 14510-PCX-005. It's an external part, takes 5 minutes to change it once the stock airbox is removed.

Don't let them tell you need ANY other parts but this one part. No guides, no chain, no engine work, no valve adjustment, nothing.

Part costs me like 105, so figure 140-170 for the part. Even 1.5 hours labor is fair.
