sorry, can't remember if the s2000 has the 'L' and 'H' letters, but below the bottom hash mark is Low.

Reading "so low?" If it's in range it's in range. There is no need to maintain the oil level at Max. Many engines will discard a couple marks (for some reason) and then stay right where yours is.

new crank, rods, and bearings. OEM from dealer. Sets me back a good $2400.

but.. going back and forth with a buddy and might just engine swap. Still up in the air, but really want to get this thing done.

pre-assembled? I didn't know they sold those. I was just looking at the parts I needed and buying what I wanted to replaced which was the whole bottom end pretty much.

Machinist gave some good news but wont know until tomorrow. I might be able to get away with the polish on the crank and save a bunch of $$$.

so you have to add labor on top of the $2,400 in oem parts?

probably easier to source a used short block that had never been rebuilt before, or buy a build motor from a reputable company.

It is not a pre-assembled short block. Dealer will install new crank rods and pistons.

The only currently available short block is the 06-09 2.2L. Even they can be hard to source.

You can also find the odd factory block or head on ebay, They pop up every now and then. There was someone selling virgin 04-05 heads, they did not last.
