The TSB is to replace sparkplugs that may come loose and ruin your engine. Over 100 of us reported loose plugs when we checked. 3 or 4 lost an engine because of it.

Should you get it done. Yes.

I just picked mine up from the dealer and it seems to run a bit stronger than before they changed them out. By the way most if not all dealers have the replacement plugs in as of this week.

A little bit of advice for when you bring it in....

Although it is TSB02-042.....you may want to refer to it as a recall and not a service bulletin. After dropping off my car this morning, I spent 20 minutes trying to explain to the service manager that this service should be done although it is a TSB.

Without referencing the TSB nor asking for a second opinion, she stated that she would not have any work done if there isn't a problem or symptoms regarding the issue.

She was later told by the lead tech that the TSB is actually a recall.....no apologies

It's the same plug with a different gasket. It won't make your car run better or worse.

Just torque down your exisiting plugs. I torqued mine to 30 ft/lbs and will wait until 50K to get the new plugs.

There was a guy on this board that torqued his down and sheared the thread sleeve right off the plug. I can't remember whether is was 30 or 40 ft-lb. Mine were at around 20 and they still backed out.

wouldn't it be worthwhile just to get some fresh plugs?
what's the normal service interval...100K?

I have my letter tucked away in my owner's manual. I check my plugs' torque every 3 months or so. They are screwed down to 20#'s. I've decided not to take the car in. I'm not concerned. In so far as the running better after getting this done, any time you change to new plugs after even a few months, the car will seem like it's running better. The new plugs are nothing magical. You might think it's pure magic if your car comes back with scratches on it or if there is 10-20 miles more on the odo afterwards or if they strip a plug cover bolt. I don't feel a free set of plugs is worth any of these. If you cannot do your own wrenching, then get it done but to each his own.
I recall there were actually 2 members who had their plug threads break off in the hole. We don't really know what the true details were in those events. I remember something about the torque wrench having been set wrong and they were dealing with in excess of 40#'s. And we didn't know if the plug was cross threaded or not in either case. These sorts of stories that linger in people's minds only serve to propogate the "gotta get this done or my car will blow up" syndrome. Again, to each his own.
