Tapping noise when cold?

Im a tech at toyota and if its not the belt tensioner i would get your valves adjusted mine are getting a little noisy so its time soon, its really easy there's an adjusting screw, get yourself a feeler gauge and its an easy DIY

I just got the car, used, and its pretty loud starting up on these cold mornings. I'm letting it cool off right now...then I'll be out there adjusting the valves...I can hear them when its warm too especially during acceleration

It the ticking is not too loud it's possible it's just a little piston slap too. I hear a very minor bit of it on my S before it warms up completely (right around 3500 RPM or so).

99% chance that it's the tensioner. I just replaced mine and it was easier than changing the oil! Just gotta move the intake box and from there it's cake!
I had the tapping noise probably the longest granted I have one of the oldest S2000's (3205 original production year) but till I heard others replacing it and fixing the rattle I didn't want to monkey with the engine.
Spend the $$$ on the tensioner and you should be all set.
