Good luck, hope you keep the power and settle that annoying noise down.

Yes, that makes sense now . I bet if I was an exhaust molecule I'd be dizzy!

Resonators typically are used to "tune" the exhaust note - on some cars it makes a big differenrce, on others not so much. By some of the posts here, it would seem the S2000's is not very active. But given the engineering thought that went into this car's design, my guess is it is there to reduce a resonance.

Resonators in the intake do tame intake :boom", but they can also be used in a manner similar to intake tract tuning (articulated flaps): usually, they set up a slight boost in midrange power - Volvo was particularly good at this in their various 5-cylinder mid and hi-perf engines.

The mufflers are similar to some things Mugen has done over the years. They are clearly quite efficient, as the aftermarket systems do not add much (The stock system on my Cobra was absolutely terrible - the MagnaFlow system added 32 wheel HP).

I seriously doubt any number of straight through resonators (pre-mufflers) will reduce the high pitched exhaust notes. High frequencies behave differently than low frequencies. High frequencies tend to be line of sight, which won't be effected as much by a straight through exhaust. A stock exhaust system with a catalytic converter has 2 resources for blocking the high frequencies. The catalyst itself blocks much of the line of sight with its tiny pasages, and the "S" curves through the mufflers do the rest.

I was thinking also about the little "wiener"that comes off 90 degrees .

The "wiener" is a Helmholtz filter (band-stop) that eliminates droning in the midrange. It doesn't have any effect on the high frequencies.

I thought this might help others to make sure they have their shop remove the right section.

Can anyone link a pic from this post that shows the area that would be removed? It's an aftermarket setup, but should show the area.

Not sure which pic you are wanting to link here but you can do it. Just go to the pic, right click and look at the properties. Copy and paste the URL between image tags here.
