The little pipe is called a Helmholtz resonator. Honda used it to tune our exhaust to eliminate the droaning the aftermarket exhausts put out.

I don't have a pic, nor have I removed just the resonator (1st cannister), but go to this thread and you will see a blow up of the stock exhaust system. See the twin mufflers at the exit of the system? Now, go upstream to where it started out as a single pipe and see the item labeled #7. It is right next to the "resonator". #7 is the hanger for it.

Alberta is in Canada. Look north of Montana.

I believe that the "weiner pipe" as you put it (LOL) was added in '01 just for car nuts like us who take out the other, muffler type resonator, and/or modify the exhaust system in other ways, so as to prevent the droning that might result from these modifications. Kinda like the analagous "anti-knock" weiner pipe that is part of the plumbing behind the walls in bathrooms and kitchens.

so your answer is that these folks are removing the 'normal' resonator and leaving the weiner? (hehe)

I have the "weiner" pipe on my '00. I think this is a standard feature on all MY's.

Leave the weiner on.
