Thumbs up Taking off loctited shift knob

I have one of Rick's Ti Voodoo shift knobs that I installed using blue loctite as per the instructions. Now I can't get the darn thing off!! Anyone know a quick way to remove it without breaking my shifter?!

Strap wrench first, then heat gun. The torch may change the color of the knob, take the finish off of your stalk or catch the interior on fire.

I know this isn't much help at the moment, but Teflon tape will work nice for next time. count how many turns to full on, take it back off, put the tape on thick and stop at that many turns.

Are there any plastic/rubber parts at the lower end of the shifter stalk I might have to worry about if I attempt the strap wrench or heat gun/torch route?

Blue loc-tite requires 20lbs of torque if I remember correctly. You just need to apply that level of torque to get it to break free. The strap wrench will do the trick. I did mine by hand, but I have big hands and I am fairly strong. It just snapped then unscrewed.

Yes, there is plastic on the other end of the shifter. Heat may be a problem, but the strap wrench should be fine.

Note: If you used Loc-Tite Red, Heat will be the only way.

If it's just a set-screw that is threadlocked, try heating the screw with a soldering iron. That will isolate the heat just where you need it so you don't damage the nylon. Hobby shops carry some machined drill-blank steel allen wrenches that are much stronger than the cheapo steel ones you find at Home Depot.

1) Back off the lock nut (?)
Righty tighy lefty lucy......

2) Twist off the knob counterclockwise.

If it sticks use a hot air gun on the knob.........

Utah

P.S. Hecash is trying to protect the thermal transfer to the boot/tranny. THERE IS NO SET SCREW! This is "under the hood". If you don't know don't post. It confuses peeps.

After loosening the locknut, grab the knob with the bottom side of a computer mouse pad and give it a brisk turn counter clockwise. I bet this will do the trick and won't mar the knob.

Good luck

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!

There is no locknut on the Team Voodoo shift knobs. You have the option of getting them engraved with the shift pattern. In order to line up the shift knob pattern you have to apply locktite to the threads, screw it down until the shift pattern is straight and let it set.

This didn't occur to me to be a problem until I went to get my clutch changed. My mechanic couldn't get the shift knob off! All is well now since he found another way around it.

Now my issue is getting used to a the new lightweight flywheel
