Synthetic oil for your tranny?
Owners manual says it's okay to use 10w-30 for a short period.
What about using synthetic 10w-30? I'm under the assumption that syn. oil will have that extra protection additive that Honda claims their MTF has?
Anyone tried this? I'm thinking about Mobil 1 10w-30

Motor oil, whether it be dino or synthetic, is still motor oil and as you already know, this is only for "temporary", short term use until you get the right stuff.
I once put synthetic motor oil into a manual transaxle of another vehicle. Within about 500 miles the tranny started to whine. When I went back to the "proper" fluid, the whine immediately went away.
We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that just because synthetic oil is good for one thing that it must be good for other things. Not so.

I put Mobil 1 in my '91 Acura Integra once. It was barely driveable. It was like not having synchros at all. I changed it back to the correct stuff right away (10W-40 conventional oil).
I have tried several oils in my S2000 tranny, and I haven't found anything as good as Redline MT-90. I didn't have good luck with Honda MTL (2nd gear grinding). Although, if your tranny shifts smoothly without grinding, just stick with the Honda fluid.
