[QUOTE=joe9k,Mar 25 2005, 02:02 PM] Once the engine is fully broken in you can switch to synthetic oil.

i'd leave the factory oil in for 5000 miles anyways.

I made the switch at exactly 7,500 miles and I drove a little bit more aggressive on my break-in procedure than most. A lot of varying rpm's the first 500 miles, a track day at 6,700 miles, I ran 8,700 rpm's in 5th gear for about 5-6 seconds at 1,500 miles, 9k rpm's in 5th gear for about 5-6 seconds at 2,500 miles, 9k rpm's in 5th gear for about 5-6 seconds at 4,500 miles and 9k rpm's in 5th gear for about 15 seconds at 6,500 miles. Actually, I ran a buck thirty two 3-4 times in between 900 to 1,500 miles.

My engine was broke-in well before 10k miles which is why I switched to synoil at 7,500 miles. I think my rings were seated well before 3k miles, but waited until 7,500 miles to make sure eveything was broke-in. I changed my factory fill way before 5k miles though. I am not going to say exactly how much before 5k miles, but I added Max Life Engine Protector to make up the Moly that is in the factory fill.

At 206 rwhp (bone stock) and 11,900 miles later, she still runs like a thoroughbred racehorse

I take very good care of my car. If she runs 80k miles, I will be happy. At the rate I am currently accumulating miles, by the time I reach 80k, I will hopefully have the resources to buy two motors if I so desire.

I always thought that Hyundai's could run on Canola oil.

Just kidding - a little car brand competition here. No offense.

mobil 1, although a good synthetic, is not the "best".

Mobil1 is a good synthetic oil for most cars, including our S. The best attribute of Mobil1 is, you can buy it from any autopart stores, even Target and Walmart stores selling Mobil1, and they are reasonably priced anywhere.
