Synchro-crunch with cold transmission
I'm experiencing my first cold Chicago winter with my '05 and feel that there is excessive synchronizer crunching with the transmission (expecially 2nd gear) until it is fully warmed. Have others experience it? With my old Miata I replaced the trans fluid with synthetic and curred 95% of the problem.
But I know that synchros actually need friction to spin the gears up before they mesh and that synthetic oils might make the problem worse.
Has anyone tried synthetic in their trans? Any recommendations on brands of oil?

Lots of people are running GM Synchromesh Friction Modified in their S2k, and have suggested that it helps cure the 1-2 crunchies. I had a notch from 1-2, and 2-3 in the cold, so I picked up some GM SMFM, and its much smoother. I highly recommend it.

no matter what fluid you have, remember the gears have to warm up. try and shift soft when its cold. im on all brand new (latest update) gears, and my trans is so tight. until i drive for 15 minutes, it isnt easy to shift. im not planning on shifting it hard till after 1k miles. trying to let all of it seat in real good. lates dave
