Switched to AC Delco ( GMSMFT ) as....
... I’m just sick of the notchy, uneasy shifting in my AP1 with 101K on the tranny. It’s always been notchy since I bought the car when it had 61K.
So..I took the plunge and ordered the GMSMFT. I actually received the AC Delco SMFT but reading here it was basically the same thing I dropped the old MTF II and added the AC Delco.
All I can say is, that if one of you told me that while I was sleeping you dropped my tranny and installed a brand new tranny, id believe you. The car now shifts amazingly and it’s actually easier to shift then it was before. All notchy grinding gone. The MTF II that was in the car only had 11K miles on it but when I drained it I could tell it was much thinner than when I had put it in 11k miles back.
Anyways..I’m now a huge fan of GMSMFT/AC Delco and I recommend anyone with a notchy AP1 trans give it a try.
PS - Make sure you always changed your drain/fill plug washers. I had to do my diff over again because I didn't replace the shot washer and I was drippin oil...

GMSMFT was always insanely smooth for me to start, but after only a few thousand miles, it became worse than the old Honda MTF.. I'm talking the old black label or black bottle MTF. New Honda MTF may not be as smooth, but it seems to last longer in my tranny.

Yeah in 5K miles I may be back here saying it didn't last. But I must say initially its pretty amazing.
The MTF II after 11K miles was like oily water. Even if the GMSMFT doesn't work out, ill find something else. I not putting MTF II in my car again..

Amsoil makes a 5W-30 Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid that some people run, perhaps check that out if GM stuff doesn't hold up well. From my reading though, the consensus seems to be that Honda MTF lasts longer than anything. I haven't tried enough to comment on that. I've only used Old and New Honda MTF and GMSMFM for multiple cycles.

I just bought an 05 over the weekend and was noticing the same issue. The car only has 16k miles on it and was always dealer maintained so before I do anything to it I'm just going to drive it and see if its me or the car (still in the feeling out phase).
BTW, I'm referring to the shifting issue and not the acceleration issue.
