Default Swapping Fuel Pump

I'm thinking of replacing my fuel pump today. Can anyone give me an idea as to how long the job will take? Should I wait for tomorrow and plan on the whole day?

about 2 hours at most...just go very slow when removing the 8mm bolts on top of the gas tank, if you drop one of those screws it will be extremely difficult to recover..

Autozone has a flex magnet extention for about $8. One of the best tools I've ever bought in my life. It's so handy..almost 2 feet long. Should be apart of everyones tool set.

Also wear long gloves Lots of sharp edges.

Fred, double check the filter bag with respects to the float. You need to bend the float slightly because it can hit the filter bag causing erroneous fuel reading...

And limber up before you start. A contortionist could get a cramp in that position.

Well, the jobs done. Took a total of about two hours. For anyone else changing the fuel pump, here are some pointers not mentioned in the Helms manual.

1. Make sure you remove the drivers seat. Unless you are a midget, I don't see how you could do the job with the seat in place.
2. You will also have to remove the wind blocker between the seats. I don't have one, but if you do, remove it.
3. Remove the trim from the back side of the trunk. You will have to remove the plastic tray that the soft top rests on through the trunk.

Fairly simple job.

What fuel pump did you end up using for your HP application?
