But yeah the higher viscosity lubes can make the bearings run a bit hotter than they are supposed to, the Honda MTF is like a low viscosity oil with a high pressure additive for the gears.
The S2000 relies on oil flow to cool the bearings also, so use the MTF or a similar viscosity gear lube.
I have asked my parts department and they know of only one MTF??

Replaced original MTF at 30k with Honda MTF. Thought I noticed an increase in notchiness, but it turned out to be the ole' clutch sticking problem (splined hub rusted).
Tried BG high-pressure additive - no difference.
Changed to M1 gear lube at 37k, no difference
Had clutch changed at 43k - BIG difference.
Had 6 guys from local club drive my car - they ALL, within two blocks of driving the car, commented on "how nice" my transmission shifted.
Still on the M1. Maybe I'll try the MTF again, if there's really a bearing heat dissipation problem with the M1.
xviper -I asked my dealer about the MTF-2 also. They insist there is only one Honda MTF. Of course he also insisted that Honda had a "standard spec" for the MTF, but after a few weeks of trying to find one, came back and said they didn't.
I've been told that it's against federal regs for a car manufacturer to require specific-branded fluids be used in the car, and that they must specify an industry-standard rating for all the fluids. Obviously that doesn't apply to Honda.

Wow! So many varied experiences with different types of fluid. Since I've never had any issues with my tranny, I think I shall be conservative and go with the Honda fluid. At 20,000 km, I probably don't really need to change it but I just like to change the fluid at this time to see what condition it's in and just to know that I have fresh stuff in there. Can't hurt. Thanks for all your opinions. If you have more, keep them coming. Myself and others will learn a lot from this.

I put redline MT-90 in there, and the Tranny got worse.
I wanted to try Royal Purple, but everyone pretty much said to stay away.
I will switch back to Honda MTF, it just feel like the right idea.
