do you have a stereo system? on my car with all my stereo mods and crap... if i don't drive it for about a week or two the battery will die. i've gotten into the habit of hooking up a battery tender to it when i don't drive it.... i also have a yellow top optima.

I use a lot of batteries in my equipment. Because of vibration issues, Optima became the one of choice. However, the yellow tops all did the same thing. I am not really sure if they are any different than the red top, or just cost more, but every one I used developed a bad cell, which gives exactly the symptoms you have described. Original red tops are going strong. On the other vehicles, I just went back to conventional wet cells and keep them on the battery tender when not using the equipment. Works just as well for a lot less.
A deep cycle battery is not really designed for the amp draw of a starter motor under load, such as in automotive use, so I wonder why you used that model.
I used it b/c it was sold in an auto parts store, and they said it was one of the best batteries available. *shrug*

Nope, no stereo. The only electrical addition I have to the car is a hardwire for my V1. However, that connection is only hot when the ignition is on, so it shouldn't cause any additional drain. I'm going to check and make sure none of the wires have gotten crossed up, but I'm doubtful I'll find anything.

Even though the key may be off, there is stll a current draw to power systems such as the alarm, clock, ECU, etc. Using a Battery Tender is an excellent idea. Our battery is NOT a deep cycle battery. It does NOT respond well to being discharged deeply and then being recharged. All it takes is for ONE deep discharge to do some serious damage to our battery. The damage most probably won't manifest itself untl the ambient temperature drops down to nearly or below freezing...or above 98F.
