Grats on starting your engine.

Two notes. AFAIK you can't use bypass on V2. Those with V1, get a V2 Also, some water sprayed into the engine is actually good for it. Water cleans the carbon deposits very well. Almost like that seafoam stuff. Of course too much will choke it. I recommend revving very hard if you ever get into a situation where water gets into the engine.

Interesting perspective and useful info in case I find myself driving through some deep water and have no recourse but to keep going. Could you please explain the reason behind this? I'd always thought that if I ever did find myself in a lot of water, the best thing to do would be to shut the engine down before any water entered the cylinders, and then have it towed or drive it after water has subsided.

Notice how the V2 uses two different diameters of piping? The V1 pipe was a constant diameter over its entire length. Both are tuned pipes, but the V2 produces two primay peaks whereas the V1 only produces one. Of course both produce harmonics and sub-harmonics. Think of the two different sized pipes as making up two different acoustical chambers. At the step there is a velocity and pressure change that I *believe* will break up any block of water, so (in theory at least) you should only get some mist into the motor rather than a big gulp of water with no air (which is what causes hydrolock with the V1). Please keep in mind that this is not something that has been proven the way the bypass valve on the V1 has, so I cannot be absolutely certian that hydrolock is impossible with the V2. I think it is at least less likely, and probably impossible, but I have no way to be absolutely certain.

I am certain that V1's can cause hydrolock, and running a V1 without the bypass valve is bad medicine.
ah i see...well whatever the reason, i'm glad my engine didn't get destroyed! i can't imagine a whole wall of water getting sucked through into the motor...just a couple small splashes caused enough trouble as it was.

i was wondering the same thing as well...i'd assumed that the reason i didn't cause damage was because i was going so slow, so a strong enough vacuum wasn't created to suck up enough water (along with the 2-size piping the V2 has i guess, as explained by red mx5).

oh, and after changing the oil yesterday, i drove home with no problems. waited about 10 or 15 miles before i revved it hard, and it seemed okay. looks like i dodged a bullet.

no more attempting to ford a river oregon trail style.
