The engine sits at an angle, and so does the dipstick, so it's not unusual for the two sides to be about 1 "x" different. Take the higher reading -- it's better to be slightly less than full than to overfill.
The owners manual states to take the lower...

^ considering you have an ap2, i'm going to go ahead and tell you ap1 guys want to be on the high side, not the low side. The amount of oil this engine can burn is astonishing lol.
thats what im afraid of, with my wrx or my old 300z iv never had to worry about this and iv herd lots of people telling me to keep an eye on it. i just want to keep my s in good condition for a long time

I always clean the dipstick. On one occasion i cleaned it, noticed it said low marker on one side and about 1/2 a quart below low on the other. cleaned it, put it back in, same thing... cleaned it, put it back in... same thing.
Repeat the process and you'll get the same level on both sides at some point. Or you can take the lower reading.

Someone who has "worked on many cars over the years" doesn't take his car to his friend to top up the oil.

Ass back at ya.

i wanted to save teh bottle incase i need it, theres no reason to open up a new bottle when valvoline has opened bottles

ass
so if you take your car to Valvoline for oil changes, and take your car to Valvoline for top offs, why do you own bottles of oil?

thers not a valvoline everywhere you go, it pays to be prepared. and between working on my masters degree and my job i dont get alot of time to work on my own car, plus my garage is lacking space wise. not everyone is a high school kid with no job
