Ok so I know about the trunk popping noise when the rear diff is going out, but this is different.

When I am at a stop and am shifting from neutral to first it makes a little clunk noise. It almost sounds like it is comming from the rear end.

is this a common problem? if so what is it? I am at 41K miles and I dont know if the diff fluid has been changed, but I am changing it this weekend so maybe this is help?

Any other suggestions? THANKS

this is supposedly normal on S2k's. mine does it too. I think what your hearing is all of the drivetrain moving.??

thats what I was thinking it was. But I would rather be safe than sorry.

I can only hear it with the radio off and no noise outside, but I can still hear it.

Can anyone else confirm or add on to this?

i hear it too on my MY03. i think it has to do with the fact that you sit next to the transmission and there isn't a whole lot of soundproofing. (just a guess)

alright. just as long as I am not the only one.

the main reason I was so worried was that I got in my car and accidentally cut someone off before it was warmed up all the way and reved too high and rev limited cut in at 6500 rpms, pretty much stopping the car.

right after that happened I turned my radio off and just listened because this was the first time it had ever happened and I didnt know what it was at first, then i looked up and was like $hit I am only at 2 bars for my engine temp and its 30 something degrees out.

but I guess my paranoid asz is just maying myself worry too much. THANKS
