Stripped the Hex Bolts to the Driveshaft
#33
Thread necromancy.
I have a 2002 with 45K and in need of a new clutch.
I stripped 2 of these 6mm Hex bolts on the front side of the shaft and 1 one on the diff side (don't ask) .. so cutting off the heads of the bolts was not an option.
Vice grips initially were worthless.
I used a dremel with a grindling wheel to flattened opposing sides (I position the stripped bolts at about 10 degrees left of 6 O'clock before grinding to make sure I had the proper angle to keep the flats parallel).
I also hit the threaded ends with a propane torch for a few moments, sprayed it with some penetrating oil, let it set for 10 minutes, clamped on the VGs and off they came. No damage to the CV, but I do have to replace the crescent shaped washers.
All I can say is this sucked.
