Great question. I have noticed this also with my car as long as I have owned it. I did a VA about 12k miles ago and it made some of the louder ticks go away but this one is still present. I wonder if its injector noise also, or if maybe one of my valves are loose again?

Can anybody else provide some more insight before i just accept this... Can valave train noise only be present for such few rpms?? Could this be the start of bad tct?? Or is this normal valvetrain noise??

Mine also does this... I'm almost positive and willing to bet only few people notice these noises... My 350z makes the same noise... 12k miles... I think it could be injectors or coilpacks clicking... it really does annoy me though... if there is a solution I would love to know... I thought it was a exhaust leak at first but had the car on a lift and put my hand around all the flanges and felt no excess heat around that area nor does my thermal sensor pick up a increase of heat around the flanges.

P.S that's why rotaries are bad ass! So quiet and so smooth!

Yes, but it was much louder prior to the VA. Afterwards it did quiet down. But I do notice the ticking between those RPM's only especially when driving against a curb or another vehicle in the lane next to me. Usually in 4th gear at about 40mph.

I usually only hear it in 1st and second because the wind noise is to great in higher gears. No matter how hard i try to ignore it i cant. Do you hear urs at cold start the most? When i first start mine is when its worst because it idles at the exact rpm that i can hear it most.... Im prob gonna get some exhaust to try to tune this out...

I have an HKS single... You can still hear it... Definitely not cool at all, it's not like it magnifies it but you can still here the echo off the wall when driving and during cold start conditions at high idle.
