Strange noise from rear
Hey fellas out there, the other day I was merging onto the west side highway inny after sitting in traffic for a 1/2 hour and enthusiastically stomped it to the redline through 2nd and 3rd, easing off in 4th and coasting into 5th and 6th...I rarely do this, and I heard and odd clunk sound from the rear that seemed unfamiliar. It was hard to discern over the wind and exhaust, but it seemed related to shifting. The car has since not made this sound that I can tell...I have an early '02 w/ 21k. Just changed the rear differential fluid with the rigth stuff at a good shop. Any ideas or things I should consider or is it just the drivetrain reacting to maximum torque and rpm's?

I just went through a diff. replacement.
Was it a clunk or does it whine only during acceleration (while the diff. is engaged).
You might want to try some moderately low speed runs (extreme driving is not necessary) to see if you here a whine or humm during acceleration. I could get mine up to about 57 before the whine turned into a whistle and pretty much disappeared with the wind noise.
If it was a one-time deal, then I don't know what to tell you.

My rear end starts making noise above 60 mph and I was wondering if this is the diff or the wheel bearing. It almost sounds like noisy tires but it was not there before. Has anyone the same noise development after 15 k miles ? I also replaced the diff oil but no change.

don't ask me, just take it in yoru dealership ASAP and they'll replace it with no charge. did you do any hard clutch drops or road racing? or did you just drive normally the whole time?
btw there was a guy who got this same noise at 65 mph and it turned out to be a faulty diff., and this happened when his car was almost brand new. honda replaced it ASAP.
