Default Stock Brakes

Question about the stock brakes?

Anyone else think that the brakes feel stiff. It is almost as if they are not Power Brakes.

If they are not, forgive me for being new to the S2000.

Brake feels stiff.. meaning it doesn't brake well or just the pedal being stiff?
I thought our brakes felt kinda soft.. well, at least mine did.
I'm coming from an R32 which had stock BMW 750i(older generation) brakes, so I might be expecting too much.
I'm looking into BBK options for our S.
Our brakes are definitely a weak point.

They feel stiff, as in the pedal does not move much. Kind of like when the car is off and you push in the brakes a couple of times. They also feel as if they don't stop the car well.

There is definitely a "different" feel as discussed multiple times but nobody can put their finger on what it is. In personal experience, different pads have changed the feel completely so maybe they just put on some oddball compound. You may need to change your brake fluid and bleed the brakes. I put in ATE very early on as the car is tracked often.

hmm.. this doesn't sound right.
I see you have an '07, and I guess you bought it brand new, right?
I also have an '07 and mine feels just like any other cars.
You might wanna have it checked at the dealer.

Brakes were great, overheated (nice smell) them once on a curvy track in the semi wet and from that point on they stopped being impressive. Dealer cannot find anything. Stopping power is still good, but the bite has gone. Maybe I have to change de brake fluid?

I've driven quite a few different S2000s and every one had a very stiff brake pedal. I like that setup, where braking effort is proportional to the force you apply to the pedal, not the distance the pedal has moved (which seems common to me for non-performance oriented cars. Makes it easier to drive I guess.) It gives much better feedback of what you're telling the car to do.

I'm surprised that many people are impressed with our stock brakes.
I even feel more confident w/ the mini cooper S's brakes than ours.
Brakes are the first thing that comes to mind when I think of performance upgrades.

really? i mean i am not impress by the stock brake but it's not that bad.

well, i used to run a turbo car with drum and dinky front rotor, the front rotor and pad had it so bad the rotor are toasted within 12k and the pad cracked for both side.

it's tipical honda feel, it's alot of travel before you actually stopping, i am used to it since it's my third honda.

the new honda(esp the accord 7th) has a very touchy brake, i drove it couple of time and i am slamming my passenger to death (it felt just like my gf's vw brake)

why upgrade your brakes i have a stock brake setup with good pads and OEM rotors and have the ABS removed and bias properly setup on my car it will lock up the brakes at speed at a track all day long with some basic home made brake ducts
