Default Still burning oil

Last year my 02 ap1 was burning oil, like a quart every 1000k. I heard an ap2 valve cover should do the trick. tried that and still burning oil. heard a catch can should do the trick. tried that and still burning oil.

any suggestions on what to do? is this gonna be a ap1 thing forever or can i fix this?

thanks

I suggest you do a compression and leak down test. That should tell you where the problem is. An AP2 valve cover and/or catch can will only help if your problem is caused by losing oil through your PCV valve. If your problem is worn rings & cylinders or burnt valves, those fixes won't help.

what oil are you running?

i ran mobile one and it burned 2quarts every 1200 miles but i replaced pcv valve and then new spark plugs and switched to castrol edge titanium. i had a compression test and my numbers were all good. now i burn around .7 quarts every 3000 miles which is really good for a ap1

i tried ap2 valve cover, changed pcv valve and catch can. when i had the ap1 cover the can (small 50ml) would fill up after 200km, with the ap2 it hasnt filled up yet and its been 500km since i changed it. thats it so far, i didnt take into consideration worn piston rings yet.

and i was running catrol syntec but i switched to amsoil in the fall. didnt seem to help. i hear catrol edge is good low oil consumption?

i will have to do a leakdown and compression test this weekend.

I have seemed to cut oil usage in 1/2 by going from syntec to Edge titanium. Let us know your experience. I was losing roughly 1 L as well per 1000 km. Make sure your pcv is functioning and clean. I can drive 1000 km highway cruising and not lose anything but then city driving I can loose. Spirited driving and track driving dont seem to have a big effect on oil usage. Something to do with motor vacuum?

i had the same problem burning 1-2 quart of oil every 3000 miles. I also had small valve cover leak and around the tct was leaking too (orings i am assuming) so they all contribute to my problem of losing oil, i did a valve adjustment, billman tct, valve cover gasket, spark plug seal (FYI they are sold separately) pcv valve and change my spark plugs while i was at it, using all OEM parts. i also install an asm catch can between the pcv and intake manifold. i been beating on my car for a couple weeks and no lost of oil. very happy and i am also running castrol edge 10w30.

if you have white/blusih smoke when in vtec then oil it probably going into the manifold from your pcv valve
also check your spark plug seal because those are known to go bad and may contribute to your lost of oil
