Sticky Clutch Pedal
#1
Something weird happened to my clutch pedal today. It seems sort of "sticky".
It was fine this morning and all of a sudden, while driving in the city, it started to act funny. When i depress it fully it's fine, but the issue comes from when i release the pedal. It first seems like it's stuck before it releases all the way, way before the point where it normally catches. That's where the "sticky" feeling comes from.
The best way i can describe this sticky feeling is that like if you spill soda or ice cream on a hinge or something and it dries and feels sticky when you move the hinge around. It feels like i spilled stuff on the hinge of the pedal.
I depressed the pedal with my right foot to see if there was a difference and it's the same feeling. I also depressed the pedal with my hands just to make sure my feet weren't playing tricks on me and it's the same. I also have noticed that my clutch pedal seems harder to press that usual, even though my clutch has always been harder to push than other fellow S2000 owners that are local to me.
As far as pertinent information goes, my car is a MY2002, with 43,700 miles on the odometer. The clutch fluid has been changed twice and the last time it was changed was roughly 1 month ago. I checked the fluid 2 days ago and it's black again. I don't know if that has something to do with it since it's only been about 2500 miles since the last clutch fluid change.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

It's possible that the release fork is hanging up on the pivot inside the transmission. It's actually easy to pop it out after unbolting the slave cyl, and grease it.

It's definitely the release fork. Here's how to fix it:
1)Go to auto store and get some high temp grease
2)Jack up car and use jackstands to support it
3)Remove the slave cylinder from the tranny (once you've got the slave cylinder removed, DON'T touch the clutch pedal)
4)Pull the dust boot off the tranny
5)You'll see the end of the release fork now, where it sticks out of the transmission. Pull on it, and it'll come detached from its mounted point (don't worry, it's not possible to yank it out of the tranny)
6)Apply grease to the mounting point, and to the carrier where the slave cylinder contacts it.
That's it. All done. It'll make more sense when you're under there. You'll be amazed how much better the clutch feels when you've greased the release fork.

We dismantled a car this weekend with a similar problem. The throwout bearing and guide weren't properly greased and caused damage to the guide. The symptoms were a hard pedal, "sticky" and it made a creaking noise. The clutch engagement in that car was an on/off affair before the fix.
Try greasing the fork but if that doesn't help you're way into advanced disassembly to get to the throwout bearing.
